Latest CIPFA stats show
Out of the 55 Fire Services (Cambridgeshire did not return figures for comparison) in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Island;
Number of FF's per Principle Officer ( FF means Fire Fighter rank whole time and retained FTE) (Principle Officer means Area Manager to Chief Officer FTE)
Surrey is ranked 45th out of 55
in terms of efficient Principle Officer management, or to put it another way, Surrey has too few FF's for the number of principle managers it employs
Number of heads of population per FF ( FF means Fire Fighter rank whole time and retained FTE)
Surrey is ranked 53rd out of 55
in terms of efficiency of FF's or to put it another, Surrey has very few FF's for the population when compared to others
Conclusion,
Surrey's has too few FF's for the size of the population
Surrey has too few FF's to justify so many Principle Officers
In the IRMP currently being formulated, the service is trying to find ways of reducing the number of whole-time crewing staff, middle managers and control staff but there are NO plans to reduce the number of Principle Officers.
If you think this is fine; no worries. Otherwise it's time to start campaigning and speaking out. What does your branch think?
You can quote these figures they are the latest from CIPFA and in the public domain for all to see.
